I want to work with you. What should I expect will happen next?

We'll set up a meeting or Skype call. You'll tell me where you are, where you've come from (not literally) and where you're going.  We'll chat about what your marketing or business development challenges are. Sometimes this will have to do with your product or market positioning too. This means you might start the meeting thinking you need something specific, but you'll discover that strategically you actually need something else.

Based on our chat, I'll draft out ways I can be involved and help. For more ambitious projects, I'll bring in partners to support the business, marketing or creative side. I'll make sure they are the right people and share with you who they are and what makes them awesome for the project. You are welcome to disagree.

I'll follow up in an email with suggestions of how this can work and how much it would cost. You'll then decide if we should work together. When we go ahead, we'll sign a contract stating common sense terms and conditions. Done.


How much do you charge and what exactly do I pay for?

My pricing depends on the nature of the project. This is determined by its duration, level of complexity and my availability. Generally, I prefer to work on longer projects, because I like to develop relationships and build projects for you that last. To give you a basic guide, one-off consultancy pricing starts at £90 per hour, but you'll get a far better deal the longer or more often we work together. 

You're paying for my time spent planning and delivering the project we agree on. Disclaimer: You won't be spending weeks haggling about pricing with me. I like to keep things simple and get on with it once we have a chat. Get in touch to discuss your needs. 


What's your background and how did you get into technology?

I'm a curious mix of a theatre producer and brand strategist. Since 2006, I've directed and produced about 20 immersive and interactive shows in London, Berlin and a few other exotic destinations like Montenegro. Some of them were pop-up restaurants in churches, others lasted 24 hours. I even performed as an 80s fitness trainer once. In leopard print. After a kickass bachelor's degree in theatre, I studied at UAL and London Business School. I wrote about how the service economy shifts towards an economy of high value experiences and the role of live storytelling in that. I soon started helping Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design to bring new product ideas to their clients. 

I was then hired for social impact projects with Design Against Crime Research Centre, where I shared how drama and improvisation can help aid more empathetic design. I worked with criminals, blind people, kids and product designers there to help reduce crime levels in London. It was a wild and eye-opening ride and when I first connected with IDEO.

For the past 5 years, I've also been involved in higher education and have developed a Master's degree in Creative Producing at University of London. We help artists become entrepreneurs.

I got into technology because I've worked freelance most of my life and when Google Campus opened, I started working from there. I met my first clients while sharing a desk with them and knocking over my coffee. (Wasn't intended, but makes for a good ice-breaker if staged.) Those guys must have recommended me from there, because that was nearly 3 years ago. Since then I've worked in the top tech cities in Europe and the US and I wouldn't have it any other way.


Who else do you work with and how do I know they're good?

I turn to the Design Laboratory for design and brand strategy solutions. For hardcore tech marketing and PR campaigns for startups, I turn to the global agency audience.io. For supporting creative ideas, I turn to the Creative Society and Somewhere. For specialised work like film, theatre and other skills, I work with the best people I meet at Central Saint Martins and Central School of Speech and Drama. For business solutions, I have a deeply connected network of entrepreneurs who have gone from having a startup, exiting a business and becoming investors. If you're after something specialised in terms of product, brand or sales, I can take your brief to and work together with IDEO, Wolff Olins, NEO Innovation, Fueled, Kwamecorp or the Barbarian Group. Why do you do this?

I'm fascinated by how technology can inspire us to be better humans and a mindful, civic community. Every day, I come across amazing products and I want to be their ambassador on the market. I get a real kick from figuring out how to take products to people and growing a business from it. I'm also competitive and like to exceed expectations. (I'm a third child, had to prove myself.) I'm at my happiest when given a giant challenge and told to make it happen.
